Step-by-step Instructions
Step 1
From the 1x8 pieces cut at 7-1/4" long, mark out the leg cut out and the top corner cut out and cut out with a jigsaw.

Step 2
Attach the 1x8 bottom to the two ends. Screws are recommended (1-5/8" star bit or 1-1/4" pocket hole screws underneath). The add the 1x3 or 1x4 back piece, using the same method of attachment.

For the trundle, build the 1x2 frame first.
Then attach the 1/4" plywood to the bottom.

Finishing
Sand all surfaces, starting with a medium grit and finishing with fine. Wipe off the dust, fill any holes or gaps with wood filler, and sand smooth once dry. Apply primer if you're painting, then finish with your choice of paint or stain and seal with a durable clear topcoat. For outdoor projects, use exterior-rated primer, paint or stain, and sealer so the piece stands up to the weather.
