2x6 Angled Leg Pedestal Base (Any Size)

One of the easiest table bases you can build for a round, square or octagon table. It's sturdy, modern and inexpensive too! Make it nicer by using pocket holes to keep screws hidden. This plan has a configurator tool - use it to determine the right size base for your round tabletop, and then build it!

Shopping List

  • 1x6s - Use the configurator tool below to figure the board lengths needed to build this base.
  • Screws - You will need 24 2-1/2" pocket holes screws
  • Screws - You will also need screws for attaching the base to the tabletop, this should be sized for your tabletop
  • Tabletop - you will need a tabletop, here is how to build a round tabletop

Step-by-step Instructions

Step 1

The tricky part with this project is the 5 degree angle is so slight it will be hard to tell what end of a board is angled. Mark all pocket holes out before drilling. Drill pocket holes on the 1-1/2" setting as specified in the diagrams. Attach with 2-1/2" pocket hole screws and glue.

Step 2

Build two of the side pieces. Attach to there main piece centered.

Step 3

Attach remaining side piece.

Step 4

Attach the base to the top.

Finishing

Sand all surfaces, starting with a medium grit and finishing with fine. Wipe off the dust, fill any holes or gaps with wood filler, and sand smooth once dry. Apply primer if you're painting, then finish with your choice of paint or stain and seal with a durable clear topcoat. For outdoor projects, use exterior-rated primer, paint or stain, and sealer so the piece stands up to the weather.
