Step-by-step Instructions

1

Lay together and measure the width. If the width does not match the diagram, you will need to adjust some 2x2 cuts - this is detailed in the cut list. If you have a pocket hole jig, join the two 1x8 boards together first.

Cut the remaining frame pieces, 3" shorter than the width of the tabletop.

Attach together to assemble the frame. Let dry on a flat level surface. Fill screw holes with wood filler and let dry. Sand well. TIP: For a two tone finish, apply paint or stain to frame at this stage. Leave top edges raw, so the glue can bond with the underside of the tabletop.

Finishing

Sand all surfaces, starting with a medium grit and finishing with fine. Wipe off the dust, fill any holes or gaps with wood filler, and sand smooth once dry. Apply primer if you're painting, then finish with your choice of paint or stain and seal with a durable clear topcoat. For outdoor projects, use exterior-rated primer, paint or stain, and sealer so the piece stands up to the weather.
