Step-by-step Instructions

1

Step 1

The first step is to cut out all of the pattern pieces. The PDF for the pattern pieces is here. All the pieces should print out in a tiled format (thanks Brooke!). Then use a sharp pen to trace the pieces on to the 1x10 board - the ink won't bleed through but the pen will create an indent in your wood. Cut all the pieces out with a jigsaw and sand the edges smooth. Then paint the pieces - it will be easier to do this now rather than later.

Step 2

Now it's time to start assembling! Fit the frame to the front and glue in place. You can also add discreetly placed countersunk screws - especially if you want the scooter to be able to disassemble.

Finishing

Sand all surfaces, starting with a medium grit and finishing with fine. Wipe off the dust, fill any holes or gaps with wood filler, and sand smooth once dry. Apply primer if you're painting, then finish with your choice of paint or stain and seal with a durable clear topcoat. For outdoor projects, use exterior-rated primer, paint or stain, and sealer so the piece stands up to the weather.
