Step-by-step Instructions
Step 1
Build two leg sets as shown with the 2-1/2" star bit construction screws. Start in the middle and work outward. Make sure the legs are square as you attach - the cross braces will work out perfectly if you are square.

Step 2
Drill two pocket holes on each end of the 2x4s and attach, so the pocket holes are hidden underneath.

Step 3
Fit the longer 2x4 in first and attach centered inside the opening.

Step 4
Scribe the smaller pieces and attach as shown in the diagram with the 2-1/2" screws.

Step 5
For the tabletop, I recommend following my video tutorial here to build a pretty 1x tabletop. You'll use the 1-1/4" pocket hole screws to assemble.

Step 6
Optional: 1x2 trim can give the tabletop a thicker profile. Attach with 1-1/4' brad nails and glue. 1x blocking can be added behind the edge to further strengthen. The tabletop was finished using this tutorial.

Step 7
Attach the top from underneath with 1-1/4" pocket hole screws or other 1-1/4" wood screws.

Finishing
Sand all surfaces, starting with a medium grit and finishing with fine. Wipe off the dust, fill any holes or gaps with wood filler, and sand smooth once dry. Apply primer if you're painting, then finish with your choice of paint or stain and seal with a durable clear topcoat. For outdoor projects, use exterior-rated primer, paint or stain, and sealer so the piece stands up to the weather.
