Step-by-step Instructions
Step 1
Make sure 1x12 boards are acclimated to long term environment, and humidity will be controlled to prevent 1x12s from shrinking and expanding over time. Cut 1x12 shelf boards to 39". Drill 3/4" pocket holes on all sides, about 10" appart. Measure the width of the boards (should be 11-1/4") and cut 2x2s to match. Drill a 1-1/2" pocket hole on each end of the 2x2s for attaching to the legs in step 2. Attach the 1x12 to the 2x2 trim with 1-1/4" pocket holes.

Build the front and back frames with 2x2s and 1-1/2" pocket holes and 2-1/2" pocket hole screws.
Attach the shelve to the frames, with 1-1/4" pocket holes screws when in the 3/4" holes, and 2-1/2" screws when joining 2x2s to 2x2s.

Finishing
Sand all surfaces, starting with a medium grit and finishing with fine. Wipe off the dust, fill any holes or gaps with wood filler, and sand smooth once dry. Apply primer if you're painting, then finish with your choice of paint or stain and seal with a durable clear topcoat. For outdoor projects, use exterior-rated primer, paint or stain, and sealer so the piece stands up to the weather.
