Step-by-step Instructions
Attach the 1x2 to the back side of the 1x8s with 1-1/4" brad nails and wood glue.
You can also use 1-1/4" self tapping screws and a drill if you don't have a brad nailer.

Center the wreath on the boards and attach.
I used a nail, but it can also be tied on, or a hook.

Use a scrap 1x2 piece to help you pencil out the J and Y letters in the remaining space.
Then paint in with white paint.

Finishing
Sand all surfaces, starting with a medium grit and finishing with fine. Wipe off the dust, fill any holes or gaps with wood filler, and sand smooth once dry. Apply primer if you're painting, then finish with your choice of paint or stain and seal with a durable clear topcoat. For outdoor projects, use exterior-rated primer, paint or stain, and sealer so the piece stands up to the weather.
