Step-by-step Instructions
Step 1
First, build the seat bench. Make sure each board is flush to the top and the end notches will fit the 2x6 legs when you are done. I use a clamp on each and every joint as I attach the pocke thole screws.

Step 2
First, drill 3/4" pocket holes facing upward in all of the frame boards for attaching the seat top. Then assemble the frame with 1-1/2" pocket holes and 2-1/2" pocket hole screws, making sure those first 3/4" pocket holes are all hidden in the inside, and facing upward. Then attach the seat top with 1-1/4" pocket hole screws, edges flush to top, with exception of the center 1x4 board overextending.

Step 3
Build the leg sets - notice the end apron (2x4 @ 3-1/2" long) is not flush to the top of the leg to allow the seat top to extend over it. Then attach the entire leg set with glue and 2-1/2" screws (I'd just use pocket hole screws) from the inside to hide all screw holes. And that's it!!!

Finishing
Sand all surfaces, starting with a medium grit and finishing with fine. Wipe off the dust, fill any holes or gaps with wood filler, and sand smooth once dry. Apply primer if you're painting, then finish with your choice of paint or stain and seal with a durable clear topcoat. For outdoor projects, use exterior-rated primer, paint or stain, and sealer so the piece stands up to the weather.
