Step-by-step Instructions
Lay the 2x6, best side down, on your work surface of the floor.
Place a 2x4 on top, bottom and end edges flush. Attach with 2-1/2" self tapping wood screws.

Step 2
Screw the remaining 2x6s to the ends of your siderails, with the 2-1/2" self tapping wood screws.
![Modern Platform Bed Frame [All Sizes] — step 2](../images/modern-platform-bed-frame-all-sizes/img_3.jpg)
Add center supports -
• none needed for twin • one for full and queen • two for kings Use 2-1/2" self tapping wood screws to attach
![Modern Platform Bed Frame [All Sizes] — step 3](../images/modern-platform-bed-frame-all-sizes/img_4.jpg)
Step 4
Attached the hairpin legs to the bottom of the bed.
![Modern Platform Bed Frame [All Sizes] — step 4](../images/modern-platform-bed-frame-all-sizes/img_5.jpg)
Angled supports can help strengthen up your bed and will help it last longer (but not required)
Cut the angles at 45 degrees with either a miter saw or setting your circular saw blade to 45 degree bevel and cutting. Make sure your bed frame is square by taking opposite diagonals, and adjusting the bed until the diagonals match. Attach with 2-1/2" self tapping screws.
![Modern Platform Bed Frame [All Sizes] — step 5](../images/modern-platform-bed-frame-all-sizes/img_6.jpg)
Step 6
Add center legs to the center supports. You may wish to measure and cut to height - as the hairpin legs may be slightly taller or shorter than advertised.
![Modern Platform Bed Frame [All Sizes] — step 6](../images/modern-platform-bed-frame-all-sizes/img_7.jpg)
Lay slats down in the bed, about 4" apart.
For the full and queen slats, alternate as done here (this reduces waste and conserves lumber) Screw down with the shorter screws.

Finishing
Sand all surfaces, starting with a medium grit and finishing with fine. Wipe off the dust, fill any holes or gaps with wood filler, and sand smooth once dry. Apply primer if you're painting, then finish with your choice of paint or stain and seal with a durable clear topcoat. For outdoor projects, use exterior-rated primer, paint or stain, and sealer so the piece stands up to the weather.
