Step-by-step Instructions
Cut the tabletop boards using a miter saw or circular saw with a straight edge.
Layout the two tabletop boards. Measure the width to make sure it is 22-1/2" wide. If not, you will need to adjust a few cuts. If you have a pocket hole jig, attach the two tabletop boards together at the center using 3/4" pocket holes and 1-1/4" pocket hole screws. TIP: Stain the tabletop now on the top and side edges, but leave bottom unfinished to attach with glue to the frame.

Step 2
Build two of the side frames with the 2x2s. Use glue and just one screw per joint to avoid splitting the wood.

Attach together with the lateral frame pieces.
Set on a level surface and make sure the frame sits flat and level. Let glue dry. Fill screw holes with wood filler. Sand with 120 grit sandpaper. Paint all edge expect the top edge - raw wood bonds better with glue.

Apply glue generously to the top of the frame.
Place tabletop on top. Attach with the shorter screws.

Finishing
Sand all surfaces, starting with a medium grit and finishing with fine. Wipe off the dust, fill any holes or gaps with wood filler, and sand smooth once dry. Apply primer if you're painting, then finish with your choice of paint or stain and seal with a durable clear topcoat. For outdoor projects, use exterior-rated primer, paint or stain, and sealer so the piece stands up to the weather.
