Build two of the side panels as shown, by attaching the cedar fence pickets to the 2x2s.
If using brad nails, glue is recommended.

Step 2
Attach the front and back pieces to the side panels to create the shape of the book rack.

Inside the book rack, add 1x2 cleats as shown.
Nails or screws can be at a slight angle if needed to fit the drill or brad nailer inside for attaching.

Step 4
Cut the bottom pieces and then mark the outer pieces to fit around the 2x2 legs. Cut out with a jigsaw. Fit and screw or nail down.

Step 5
Add remaining pieces. Space gaps evenly between the boards. Nail or screw down.

Finishing
Sand all surfaces, starting with a medium grit and finishing with fine. Wipe off the dust, fill any holes or gaps with wood filler, and sand smooth once dry. Apply primer if you're painting, then finish with your choice of paint or stain and seal with a durable clear topcoat. For outdoor projects, use exterior-rated primer, paint or stain, and sealer so the piece stands up to the weather.
